What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The Rei means universal and Ki meaning life force energy.

The idea is that our life force energy flows through us; if our energy is low, we feel stress and may be more likely to get sick. If it is high, we are healthy and more likely to be happy.

Someone performing a Reiki treatment will lay hands on you, which may sound similar to a massage. But instead of kneading your muscles, the Reiki practitioner will gently touch and press. He or she may glide hands over you just above your skin, without touching. Those experiencing Reiki feel a glowing radiance. The effects are relaxation, feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing. Reiki works in conjunction with any other medical or therapeutic techniques.

Reiki is not a religion and has no dogma. Reiki cannot take the place of full medical treatment but has been shown to help with all injuries, ailments, and diseases, including multiple sclerosis, heart disease, skin problems, cuts, bruises, broken bones, headache, colds, flu, sore throat, sunburn, fatigue, insomnia, impotence, poor memory, lack of confidence, and more.

I am a Reiki Master. The healing component is what drew me to the practice. I learned this energy is all about healing and love and that to stay true to the energy, we must just remain open-minded.
