Reiki in Hospitals

Reiki

Doctor holding stethoscopeReiki is a Japanese healing technique that uses a person’s energy to help them destress and recuperate for any mental, emotional, or physical ailments. A Reiki or Chakra expert may slightly touch the patient’s skin during a Reiki session. Although Reiki seems like a massage, the two practices are quite different. While a masseuse kneads the skin of the person during a massage appointment, a Reiki master gently touches the skin while gliding their hands over the patient’s body.

Even though Reiki is considered to be out of the bounds of mainstream healthcare services, it’s starting to gain acceptance rapidly in medical facilities worldwide. Many doctors and nurses are using this  complementary healthcare technique to quicken the healing process in patients while keeping the cost to a minimum.

Some people often try to make a connection between Reiki and Christianity, but Reiki is not exclusive to any religion. It’s a spiritual practice that helps everyone who gives it a try. It works with a person’s energy, not their religious beliefs. You can know more about that in our extensive guide on ‘what is reiki.

Reiki enters Hospitals
The reason why medical experts have started incorporating said Japanese therapy in their practice is the effectiveness of the procedure. Reiki has shown immense promise in helping patients recover from incapacitating mental, physical, and emotional maladies.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, a highly qualified cardiothoracic surgeon at Columbia Presbyterian Medical center, New York, uses Reiki and other holistic complementary healthcare techniques to get his patients through surgery. Julie Motz, the Reiki Master who works with Dr. Oz, has reported that the acclaimed surgeon has used alternative healing therapy while conducting high-risk operations to balance the patient’s energy in the operation room.

Hospitals and clinics have always struggled with providing top of the line patient care to the public within reasonable rates. However, due to the complicated medical procedures and medications, keeping patient welfare inexpensive is not easy. But with Reiki, medical establishments are now able to offer alternative effective healing to patients without draining their pockets.

Another reason responsible for bringing Reiki into the mainstream is the ever-rising interest of patients in the treatment. Vega, a Reiki master at Memorial Sloane Kettering Hospital has been asked by several patients to perform the healing procedure on them. Even cancer patients have asked Vega to use Reiki on them.

Moreover, several studies conducted by well-reputed medical institutions suggest that patients are beginning to realize the efficacy of Reiki more than ever. According to a survey conducted in 2007 by the CDC, 1.2 million adults and 161,000 children in America received energy-based treatments like Reiki in 2006.

Science supports Reiki
Science also attests to the healing power of Reiki. A research study published by the Hartford Hospital, Connecticut, claims that Reiki improved patient sleep by 86 percent, reduced pain by 78 percent, and reduced nausea by 80 percent, and reduced anxiety during pregnancy by 94 percent.

I, Myra Herron Ray, NC Reiki Master believe that Reiki has immense healing power and that it is one of the reasons why I decided to become an expert in the field. If you are suffering from any kind of physical or mental stress, then give the Japanese healing technique a chance to treat you.
