A Beginner’s Guide to the Throat Chakra

Chakras

The throat chakra is represented with a 16-peak circle around an inverted triangle with a circle in the center.According to the Hindu tradition of Tantra, the Vishuddhi chakra is the fifth primary chakra out of the seven. The name comes from the Sanskrit language and means “especially pure” in English. In the lay man’s tongue, this chakra is called the throat chakra. This is because it is located near the thyroid gland in the throat region.

Location
As the common name implies, this chakra is located in the throat region, in front of the spine. The kheshtram of the Vishuddhi chakra is in the pit of the throat. To be exact, it is in the middle of the throat, above the base of the neck.

Besides the throat, it is associated with body parts including the mouth, teeth, nose, ears, and neck. In terms of glandular connection, it is also associated with the parathyroid as well as the thyroid.

Symbol
The throat chakra is symbolized by a 16-petaled lotus flower. Inside the circle, there is an inverted triangle with a circle inside. The chakra is said to be white with the petals a bright of smoky purple. The circle in the downward-pointing triangle represents the full moon.

The seed syllable in the mantra ham and is written in blue inside the chakra.

Color
The throat chakra is associated with the color blue or aquamarine. The chakra energy, on the other hand, is a smoky turquoise blue or purple.

Element
Vishuddhi is associated with the element of ether or aether, known as akasha.

Balanced Vishuddhi
The fifth primary chakra is supposed to be associated without your expression and your ability to articulate your emotions. It stresses on both verbal and non-verbal communication.

When it is in balance, it connects with your ethereal realm and ignites your intuitive abilities. It helps you realize your reality and your truth. You use it to process and express your creativity to be yourself.

Emotional Issues and Behaviors of a Blocked Throat Chakra
When the chakra is not in balance, it creates bottlenecks in how you express yourself. You will feel like you have something to say but can’t. It’s like being stuck with a secret you want to keep.
Your thoughts will be blocked, making it harder to find the right words to say how and what you’re feeling in the moment.

When Is Your Chakra Overactive
On the other hand, an overactive Vishuddhi chakra will make you more talkative. Instead of stopping to listen to what others have to say, you will talk over them. It can make you seen self-righteous and arrogant.

Communication with others will be the main aspect that will suffer from an overactive fifth chakra.

You can restore balance and realign the energy of your throat chakra by trying out the following tips:

  1. Drinking plenty of water but focus on how it impacts your throat in a positive way.
  2. The rise of the Kundalini is also affected by an overactive or unbalanced throat chakra. There are various yoga poses that can help redirect the energy.
  3. Meditate by visualizing blue. Think of the sky, the sea, and other blue things.
  4. Blue topaz, sapphires, aquamarines, and other blue stones can help. You can keep them around you while meditating or wear jewelry made out of these stones.
